About Roland SG

The S-4000 Modular Digital Snake can be configured to meet the needs of just about any live and installed sound application. The AES/EBU input and output modules allow the S-4000 Digital Snake to connect to a wide range of digital sources and destinations. The cards have built-in Sample Frequency Rate Converters and can accommodate clocks from 44.1kHz to 96kHz. Using the built-in SRCs, sources with different sampling rates can be combined in one S-4000 system along with analog microphone and line level inputs.

Using the AES/EBU input modules, sources such as digital multi-track recorders used for show playback, samplers, and broadcast video playback decks can be combined in the snake with microphone and other sources. The S-4000 offers the benefit of much higher quality sound than that found using traditional analog cabling, as it is immune to the high frequency lost inherent in analog cables as well as induced hums and buzzes. With digital inputs, the integrity of the digital signal will be maintained from source to destination.

On the output side, the S-4000 can then interface with a digital mixing console, maintaining a completely digital signal path. With its high quality XR-1 remotely controlled mic preamps and AES/EBU input modules, the S-4000 system offers the highest quality sound on the market today.

The S-4000's sources can be easily split using standard giga-bit Ethernet switches or the RSS S-4000SP splitter . Using the AES/EBU output modules, both analog and digital sources can then be routed to digital des-tinations such as a broadcast truck or digital recording rig. This again maintains the highest possible sound quality throughout the audio chain from stage to mixing console, to recording, monitoring and broadcast locations.
